Kitchen winners enjoy beef and beer

Self-confessed beef lover Dan Mulheron and his wife Steph are heading to Queensland Country Life’s upcoming ‘Beef and Beer’ night in Brisbane on Tuesday, May 21.

The unassuming couple not only publicly proclaim their passion for cooking with beef, but the whole country now knows their names after they claimed victory in the latest series of the reality television cooking competition, My Kitchen Rules (MKR).Now a household name, Dan and Steph, cooked their way to success on Sunday night, winning $250,000 and capturing the hearts of millions after Dan comically coined himself as “just a tradie with my lady”.

The Hervey Bay-based couple will join forces with Queensland Country Life, the Plough Inn Tavern, Nolan Meats and Carlton to celebrate all things beef and beer at the dinner on May 21.

“Beef is not just my favourite protein to cook with or my favourite meal – it’s my favourite ingredient full stop,” Dan said. “You just can’t beat a piece of sirloin – that’s my weakness.
“As soon as I heard about the beef and beer night I was all in. Beef and beer – that’s me all over. I can’t wait.”

Mouth-watering steaks will be on the menu, supplied by Terry Nolan, Nolan Meats, from his Blonde Aquitaine herd at Gympie, and selected beers are set to flow freely thanks to Carlton.
The MKR winners will mingle with more than 60 guests at one of South Bank’s most iconic and long-standing pubs, the Plough Inn Tavern.

Dan has a passion for cooking with beef and said he’s especially excited to sample and cook with premium and secondary beef cuts of Nolan Meats on the night. His first contact with Nolan Meats was as a young apprentice clean-up boy at a local butcher shop, Pacific Meats, in Hervey Bay, which has since closed down.

“Nolan’s beef is always a great product and I love cooking with it,” Dan said.

During the dinner, Dan will demonstrate his beef cooking skills, Terry Nolan will talk on the red meat eating experience, and a Carlton master brewer will discuss beer tasting notes.

The Best of the Bush Beef and Beer dinner will be held at the Plough Inn Tavern, South Bank, on Tuesday, May 21.
Tickets are $85/person.
Bookings can be made with Meg at the Plough Inn, (07) 3844 7777 or 0410 221 511.
